Sarah Sigrest named A-Sun “Pitcher of the Week”
With four dominating performances at the USF Under Armour Invitational, Sarah Sigrest was named Atlantic Sun Conference “Pitcher of the Week” on Monday.

The junior right-hander racked up a 3-0 record with one save in four appearances, allowing just one run in 22.2 innings of work – including two complete game shutouts.

“Sarah pitched really well this weekend,” said JU head coach Amanda Lehotak. “She fought all weekend. She had three or four at bats with 12 pitches to the same batter and won all those. She’s starting to find her groove as we gear up for conference play.”

The Dolphins (13-9) rolled up an impressive 4-1 record during the tournament, with Sigrest playing a vital role in JU picking up wins over St. Joseph’s, Maine, Villanova and Toledo.

Sigrest struck out 11 while allowing only two hits over eight innings for JU to get a 2-0 win over St. Joseph’s. Armed with the confidence from that win, she recorded the final two outs for the save in preserving JU’s 2-1 win over Maine.

Against Villanova, Sigrest was on top of her game again, allowing one run on four hits to get her second straight win as the Dolphins took home a 2-1 victory. She wrapped up the tournament with another stellar performance, allowing just two hits in a 7-0 victory over Toledo.

The stellar week lifted Sigrest’s record to 6-3 on the season, with a miniscule 1.06 earned run average. She has now struck out 62 batters and limited opponents to a paltry .189 batting average.

Sigrest and the Dolphins are back in action on Thursday as they host Delaware State for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
