Men’s tennis drops 4-3 decision to Campbell
JU won three singles matches but Campbell swept the doubles competition as the Dolphins men’s tennis team lost, 4-3, to the Camels in a conference matchup on Friday afternoon in Buies Creek, N.C.
The Dolphins lost for the third straight match in falling to 2-7 overall and 0-2 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Campbell won its second consecutive match to improve to 9-2 and 2-1.
Fernando Bano Lopez picked up JU’s first win in the match, outlasting Larbi Lamzouri in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in second singles. Lopez improved to 6-3 overall in singles play this season, which has consisted of the sophomore shuffling between first and second singles.
Freshman Larry Condez also needed three sets to earn the win, capturing a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Fernando Guillen in the third position. Junior Matthew Hansen rounded out the Dolphins victories, beating Josep Baro, 2-6, 6-3, 10-7 in a long match from the sixth spot.
Campbell countered with singles wins in the first, fourth and fifth positions and swept the doubles competition.
In a quick turnaround, JU will play USC Upstate on Saturday in another conference meeting. Match times are set to begin at 2 p.m.
