This Week in JU Athletics (Mar. 13-20)
JU women’s lacrosse player Morgan Derner was tabbed as the Community First Credit Union “Athlete of the Week” to kick off the next edition of This Week in JU Athletics.

This Week in JU Athletics is a weekly feature to give fans the top five items of the week and a full list of all the athletic events so they can cheer the Dolphins on to victory.


Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" - Morgan Derner: Freshman Morgan Derner was named the Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" by firing 10 shots to lead the JU women’s lacrosse team against Temple and Louisville. Derner also went 2-for-2 on free-position shots and collected three ground balls each game for a total of six. She currently leads the Dolphins with 16 goals through her first eight games
Men’s basketball battles ECU in postseason - The Dolphins get to partake in some March Madness as they play East Carolina tonight at 8 p.m. in the first round of the CollegeInsiders.com Tournament (CIT). It’s the Dolphins third straight season with postseason play which is the second longest in program history, trailing just JU’s five-season run from 1970-74.
Spring Break home matches - Even though the campus is gone for Spring Break, there is still chances to catch the Dolphins in action this week. The women’s lacrosse plays Long Island at D.B. Milne Field tomorrow at 4 p.m. After matches today, both tennis teams will host Kennesaw State and Mercer on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex. The rowing squad’s will go through their Spring Break Training Camp before heading out of town on Saturday.
Track & field competes at UCF Black & Gold Challenge - The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday with the UCF Black & Gold Challenge on Saturday in Orlando. It will be a tough field for the Dolphins as they battle against host UCF, Texas, Michigan and Florida. The Longhorns recently finished second in the NCAA Indoor Championships, while the Wolverines (18th) and Knights (21st) finished in the top 25.

Baseball & Softball with tough road slates - The JU baseball and softball teams will be tested with tough road swings this week. The baseball team travels to College of Charleston tomorrow before an A-Sun road series at ETSU. The softball squad has consecutive ranked Texas A&M and Texas Tech in Clearwater, Fla., while also taking on Dartmouth, Winthrop and Boston.
