JU to face SMU in CIT second round matchup
With its 20th win of the season in the books, the JU men’s basketball team looks to continue its season on Saturday when the Dolphins travel to face SMU in the second round of the Postseason Tournament.

The Dolphins (20-11) get the Mustangs (18-14) after SMU’s 64-57 overtime win over Oral Roberts on Wednesday night. Game time has yet to be determined.

“We’re looking forward to playing SMU this weekend,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “SMU is a good team that is well coached and plays well at home. We’re going to work now to get ready for another tough road game on Saturday.”

Jacksonville rallied to force overtime against East Carolina and never trailed in overtime, pulling out a 71-66 win to clinch the second straight 20-win season for the Dolphins. It’s the first back-to-back 20-win seasons at JU since 1974.

Topping it off, JU picked up a postseason win for the second straight season – a first in program history.

And it happened because a pair of seniors made a lot of big plays throughout the night. Playing in their school record 126th career game, Ayron Hardy and Travis Cohn combined for 30 points. Cohn led JU with eight points in the first half and finished with a team-high 18.

This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The game will be broadcast on 1010XL, with Joel Lamp and Artis Gilmore calling the action.
