Men’s tennis fails to overcome Marquette’s depth in loss
The JU men’s tennis team won two out of the first three singles matches but couldn’t over Marquette’s depth as the Dolphins lost, 5-2, to the Golden Eagles in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

Sophomore Jose Fantova and freshman Lance Lvovsky recorded the Dolphins only individual victories. But JU lost its sixth straight in falling to 2-10 overall. Marquette improved to 9-6 on the season.

Fantova won his match against Jose Manuel Munoz in the top-singles spot with a straight set, 6-3, 6-2 victory. Fantova is 8-4 in singles play, giving him two more wins than the next closest teammate. He is also 5-4 from the first singles slot in going up against opponents’ top-ranked player.

JU’s other highlight came via Lvovsky’s 6-1, 6-2 win over Logon Collins in third singles. Lvovsky snapped a personal five-match losing streak in singles competition to improve to 2-8.

Fantova teamed with sophomore Fernando Bano Lopez for JU’s only win in doubles play. Marquette won the other two doubles matches to earn the additional team point.

JU will resume conference play and aim for its first Atlantic Sun victory of the current campaign when it hosts Kennesaw State on Friday at 2 p.m.
