Men's tennis falls just short to Kennesaw State
The JU men’s tennis team appeared to be on its way to an upset victory over a Kennesaw State team vying for an Atlantic Sun Tournament berth. But after winning the top three singles events, the Owls rallied to post a 4-3 win over the Dolphins on Friday at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.

JU lost its seventh in a row to fall to 2-11 and 0-4 in ASun play. Kennesaw State won the fourth, fifth and sixth matches while winning the top two doubles competitions to post the overall victory. The Owls moved to 8-7 (3-2 A-Sun), setting a record for most wins in a single season since the program started in 2008. The conference win total also set a school record.

Sophomore Jose Fantova evened his conference record at 2-2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win in first singles. Fantova moved to 6-4 from the top spot.

Fellow sophomore Fernando Bano Lopez followed suit, out-lasting Simon Janik, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-1 for a three-set victory. Lopez also improved to 2-2 against ASun opponents and moved to 7-4. Fantova and Lopez are the only two JU players with singles winning percentages higher than .500.

Freshman Larry Condez rounded out the wins for the Dolphins, recording a 6-2, 7-5 win over Tyler Mills from the third spot. Condez snapped a personal three-match losing streak in going to 5-8.

But Kennesaw State won the remaining three singles matches and won the top two doubles competitions for the deciding team point.

JU will next be in action on Saturday when it hosts Mercer at 10 a.m.
