Women’s rowing has good showing at Governor’s Cup
After a full week of Spring Training Camp, the JU women’s rowing team got a sense of where they stand entering the 2011 Spring Season by competing in the Governor’s Cup, Saturday on Canal 54 in Fellsmere, Fla.

JU had four boats compete in eight races in two days (Varsity 8, Varsity 4, Junior Varsity 8, Freshman/Novice 4) as the Dolphins gauged their progress since last week’s opening competition at UCF. The event was hosted by the Florida Institute of Technology and also featured women’s crews from Columbia, Nova Southeastern and Barry.

“Overall, it was a good end to our Spring Break Training,” said JU head women’s coach Kris Muhl. “It was great to race another Division I school (Columbia) that is fast, as well as, fast programs like NOVA, FIT, and Barry. We learned a good deal and will continue to move people around and tinker with line-ups throughout the season. It was great that the F/N4 had a solid race and also that the V8 was negative splitting from race to race. Next weekend we will see how we compare to a lot of the northern schools at the V8 at the Murphy Cup.”

On Friday, the Varsity 4 consisting of coxswain Savannah Rice, Morgan McTiernan, Adrienne Santos, Abby Sierigk and Jordyn Clary finished with a time of 8.50.0 behind Nova Southearn (8:31.0).
