Men’s tennis outlasts Lipscomb for ASun victory
Key contributions from the doubles pairings, along with stellar performances from the third, fourth and fifth singles spots, propelled the JU men’s tennis team to a 4-3 win over Lipscomb in an Atlantic Sun match on Saturday.

The Dolphins battled the Bisons in singles play, splitting the six matches. JU won two out of three closely contested doubles matches to earn the additional overall point and decide the outcome of the match in improving to 4-12 overall and 2-5 in the ASun. Lipscomb dropped to 6-8 and 3-4.

All three doubles matches were decided by a collective eight games. JU’s paring of Jose Fantova/Larry Condez bested Tanner Brown and David Salazar, 8-6 in second doubles after Lipscomb won the top doubles matchup.

Fernando Bano Lopez and Matthew Hansen teamed for an 8-5 victory over Miguel Cortez and Colby Shaw in third doubles to hand the Dolphins the crucial team point.

Condez and Hansen also won their collective singles matches. Condez defeated Tanner Brown 6-4, 6-3, from the fourth spot to improve to 8-8 overall and 5-2 against ASun opponents. Condez, a freshman, has won four in a row.

Hansen outlasted Miguel Cortez in fifth-singles action, posting a straight-sets victory, 6-3, 7-5. The junior won his second in a row to improve to 5-8.

Freshman Lance Lvovsky cruised past Chad Pierron 6-3, 6-2 in third singles to round out the JU individual wins.

The Dolphins will host Bethune-Cookman in a non-conference meeting on Wednesday. Match time at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex is slated for 2 p.m.
