Men’s golf finishes 11th at the Linger Longer Invitational
Bobby Fredeking carded a three-under par 69 in the final round as the JU men’s golf team finished in 11th at the Linger Longer Invitational on the par-72 Great Waters Course at Reynolds Plantation.

The Dolphins shot a 14-over par, 302, in the last round to slip into 11th place at 39-over par for the event.

No. 4 Alabama won the 13-team event at 18-under par, carding a four-under par 284 in the final round. Cory Whitsett, ranked 17th nationally, won the individual competition by one at 13-under par over teammate Bud Cauley.

“This is another great tournament for us to participate in this spring and we continue to get closer to putting up some really good scores,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “We’re going to look at how we finish rounds this week because we have lost a lot of shots in the last few holes this week.”

Fredeking’s round of 69 is his best this season and his most consistent. The junior made three birdies on the day and had 15 pars, moving up from a tie for 46th to a tie for 24th at five-over par.

Gavin Frost had the next best round for JU, carding a three-over par 75, putting up three birdies on the back nine to shoot one-under par for his final nine holes. The senior finished the event tied for 40th at 10-over par.

Jamey Salmon shot a six-over par 78 to finish in a tie for 58th at 14-over par. Trey Douglas had his best round of the event, carding an eight-over par 80 to finish in 72nd place. Dillon Batsel struggled in his final round, shooting an 82 to fall into a tie for 48th at 12-over par.

The Dolphins are off until they participate in the River Landing Intercollegiate on April 8.
