Men’s tennis wins third in a row in rolling past FGCU
The JU men’s tennis team swept the doubles competition and outlasted Florida Gulf Coast University in singles play to post a 5-2 win in an Atlantic Sun matchup on Friday at the Keith Watson Family Tennis complex.
JU set a season high with its third straight victory to improve to 5-12 and 3-5. FGCU fell to 3-17 and 1-8.
Freshman Larry Condez continued his hot streak, winning his fifth consecutive individual match with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Dean Tsmas in fourth singles. Condez has found a comfort zone in that spot, improving to 6-1 on the season.
Sophomore Fernando Bano Lopez set the tone at first-singles, surviving a difficult opening set to record a 1-6, 7-6, 6-0 win over Matthew Rock.
Jose Fantova had far less difficulty from second-singles, cruising in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 over Steve Binninger. Fantova improved to 10-7. Lopez and Fantova are tied for the team lead with 10 singles wins.
The Dolphins will next be in action on Sunday when it hosts Stetson at 10 a.m.
