Adam Brett Walker named A-Sun “Player of the Week”
Sophomore first baseman Adam Brett Walker is considered by many to be a star after only a season and a half with the Dolphins but NASA may consider him a “Global Killer” with the amount of meteors shooting off of his bat last week, en route to Atlantic Sun Conference “Player of the Week” accolades.
In four games, Walker brought massive destruction to opposing pitching staff’s ERA by registering a .611 batting average (11-18) with four doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, 21 total bases, a 1.167 slugging percentage and a .696 on-base percentage.
“Adam had a tremendous week for us,” said JU head coach Terry Alexander. “We had a lot of high scoring games over the weekend but fortunately for us, we were able to put more runs on the board and Adam was a big part of that. He has always been known as a power hitter but when you have a batting average above .400, you are more than that. The sky is the limit for him and I’m just fortunate to have Adam with our program right now.”
Against Georgia Southern, Walker went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI to start out his week. In the first game against Campbell, he kept the water boiling by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI as JU rallied in the ninth for an 11-10 win. In game two of the series, he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as the Dolphins rallied for a 16-13 victory. In saving his best for last, Walker had a career day in the series finale by going 4-for-5 with three doubles and seven RBI.
Walker currently leads the Atlantic Sun Conference in slugging percentage (.719), RBI (51) and total bases (105) while ranking second in batting average (.418), hits (51) and doubles (15) and third in on-base percentage (.497) and home runs (9). He is also making his way into the JU career record book in less than two seasons, tying Rick Scheetz (1978-81) for 10th in the home run list with 25.
The Dolphins (23-13, 13-5) will have the week off before hosting No. 21 Stetson for a three-game set at John Sessions Stadium beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The game can be head live on 1010XL with Joel Lamp calling all of the action or through ASun.TV and live stats by logging onto JUDolphins.com.
