Rob Moore named MAAC’s “Rookie of the Week” for second time
Freshman midfielder Rob Moore was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s “Rookie of the Week” after tallying four points against Marist, the league announced on Monday.
Moore took home the honors after posting his first career hat trick against the Red Foxes. It marked the second time Moore has won the award this season after previously being selected on March 21.
“Rob has consistently improved as the season has progressed,” JU head coach Matt Kerwick said. “He continues to work hard and has taken on an increased role on our team throughout the year. We look forward to him continuing to mature as a player and a leader.”
Moore scored two of his goals versus Marist in the opening quarter and added a late strike with 4:43 left in regulation to give the Dolphins a one-goal lead before the Red Foxes scored in the final minute and added an overtime marker for the win.
In his first season, Moore is averaging just more than a goal per game, recording 13 through his first 12 collegiate contests for fourth most on the team. After scoring two goals versus Siena, Moore has five goals in his last two games and has three multi-goal games this season.
Moore scored three goals in a game for the first time and assisted on TJ Kenary’s even-strength marker at 6:36 of the third quarter to finish with a career-high four points.
The Dolphins will look for Moore to continue his hot start with a must-win game on Sunday at VMI at noon. JU (4-8, 2-3) needs a victory to keep in contention for a MAAC Tournament appearance. The Dolphins will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak and hoping for help as only the top four teams in the seven-team league qualify for the postseason. JU is currently in sixth place, ahead of the Keydets (2-9, 0-4).
