Track & field begins busy week at UCF Twilight on Thursday
The JU track & field team will compete at two different meets during a three-day period starting Thursday at the UCF Twilight in Orlando, Fla.

The Dolphins are set to also participate in the Seminole Twilight on Saturday in Tallahassee as JU looks to improve marks for invites into the NCAA East Preliminary Round on May 26.

“We are excited to get back to competing in individual events this weekend,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “The Thursday, Saturday schedule this weekend will help us simulate the multi-day competition at the NCAA East Preliminary. We hope to get some good work in and improve our individual rankings.”

At UCF, senior Ronnisha Hall will be busy in the throw events with the shot put and discus. Hall is back in action after earning “Outstanding Field Performer” honors at the A-Sun Championships on April 16.

Sophomore Akeela Bravo will join Hall in the discus, while sophomores Joane Pierre and Bienna Freeman are set to run in the 800-meter.

In the sprints, senior Louise Kiernan will run in the 100-meter for the Dolphins. Seniors Unique Singleton and Dainelle Davenport are competing in the 200-meter. Junior Stacey Young and sophomore Charlene Charles will round out the meet with the 100-meter hurdles.

Young picked up the victory in the 100-meter hurdles (13.53) at the A-Sun Championships to earn “Most Outstanding Performer” honors.

On Saturday, Hall and Bravo are both competing in the discus. Hall will also participate in the hammer, while Kiernan is running again in the 100-meter and Young is in the 100-meter hurdles for the second time in the week.

Singleton, Davenport, Freeman, Pierre and Charles each will run in the 400-meter to close the meet.

Last time out, Singleton, Davenport, Pierre and Freeman combined for a school-record time of 3:39.18 to earn a spot in the Championship of America main final at the Penn Relays. They would also run a 3:57.21 (8th) in the Sprint Medley Relay.
