Track & field signs local native Courtney Walker to the 2011-12 mix
The JU track & field team added some local favor to the roster by signing former Mandarin High School sprinter Courtney Walker for the 2011-12 season.

The Jacksonville native has a personal-best time of 11.86 in the 100-meter and posted a 24.36 in the 200-meter. As a senior, she ran a season-best time of 11.96 in the 100-meter at the Gateway Conference Championship on March 24.

“We are always happy when one of Jacksonville’s best track and field student-athletes chooses to attend JU,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “She has received strong high school and club coaching and has great family support. She will immediately impact the short sprints in the Atlantic Sun Conference, and she will help our relays maintain their regional and national prominence.”

Walker is the sixth athlete set to join the Dolphins next season after Sally Marie Futch (Statesboro, Ga., throws), Sarah Bailey (Vernon, British Columbia, distance), Shadaey Campbell (Orlando, Fla., sprints), Alexis Taylor (Sanford, Fla., hurdles) and LaToya Payne (Mabbleton, Ga., sprints/hurdles) who committed to JU earlier this semester.
