This Week in JU Athletics (Jan. 17-23)
JU women’s basketball player Ashanti Williams was tabbed as the Community First Credit Union “Athlete of the Week” to kick off the next edition of This Week in JU Athletics.

This Week in JU Athletics is a weekly feature to give fans the top five items of the week and a full list of all the athletic events so they can cheer the Dolphins on to victory.

Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" - Ashanti Williams: Junior guard Ashanti Williams earned Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" by honors helping the Dolphins down Belmont in Nashville for the second year in a row on Jan. 10. In just her second start of the season, she scored a team-best 18 points on 6-of-12 attempts from the floor and had two assists. Williams also had 17 points in the start at Lipscomb two days earlier.
Men’s basketball heads to the Peach State - The Dolphins will look to get back into the left column as they head to Georgia this week. JU plays at Mercer on Thursday before closing the week on Saturday at Kennesaw State. The Dolphins are trying to bounce back following a 1-3 week where they suffered losses to Belmont and ETSU.
Women’s basketball at home tonight - Fans get their lone chance to see a JU team in action this week as the Dolphins host USC Upstate tonight in Swisher Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The Spartans took both matchups last season for a 3-2 lead in the all-time series. Following the game tonight, the Dolphins will travel to Kennesaw State to play the Owls on Saturday at 5 p.m.
More on men’s basketball - The ETSU loss ended JU’s five-game winning streak at the Arena. ETSU was the last team to beat JU at the Arena with a 64-62 victory in the regular season finale last year. The Bucs have won six of the last seven meetings with JU.

New JU teams in action on the horizon - This is the final week that both basketball teams will reign supreme as the only squads on campus. Both tennis teams kick off its seasons on Jan. 28-29. The Dolphins track & field team begins its quest for a sixth straight conference title at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational on Jan. 29 in Gainesville, Fla. while the women’s lacrosse team will play an exhibition match against the USA U-19 squad on the same day in Orlando.
