Walker II named to Golden Spikes midseason list
JU baseball’s Adam Brett Walker II is back in the national spotlight after being named to the 60-man midseason watch list for the Golden Spikes Award presented by USA Baseball.

Walker II makes the midseason cut for the second straight season and hopes to be one of the 30 semifinalists again when they are announced on May 29. He was named to preseason list at the start of the 2012 season.

The award is sponsored by Major League Baseball and presented each year to the player who best exhibits exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship. Past winners for College Baseball’s top honor include: Jason Varitek (1994), J.D. Drew (1997), Mark Prior (2001), Jered Weaver (2004), Tim Lincecum (2006), David Price (2007), Buster Posey (2008), Stephen Strasburg (2009), Bryce Harper (2010) and Trevor Bauer (2011).

"We are happy for Adam,” JU head coach Terry Alexander said. “He has settled in and found his normal grove these past few weeks. I know Adam has a lot left in the tank and we look forward to see how he finishes these last 11 games.”

Walker II is powering the JU offense with team highs in average (.339), hits (56), runs (32), doubles (13), home runs (8) and RBI (35). He also enters three weeks of the regular season six home runs shy of tying JU all-time mark. Walker II is also four all-time in doubles and an RBI shy of the fourth spot in that category.
