JU faces tall test against #16 Marquette
With its first matchup against a nationally ranked opponent behind them, the Jacksonville University men’s basketball team has turned its focus on Monday night’s matchup against #16 Marquette.

What JU head coach Cliff Warren will be looking for is improvement when the Dolphins face the Big East power and Sweet 16 participant from a year ago.

“We want to get better every day,” Warren said. “There are a lot of things we need to work on and we had a good film session to show our good plays and our bad plays.”

Jacksonville (2-3) is coming off its worst loss in the Warren era, falling to #9 Florida, 107-62, on Friday night. The Gators hit 11 3-pointers in the game and their inspired performance put any hopes of a second straight upset away quickly.

The Dolphins got a team-high 15 points from Russell Powell, who has scored in double figures in four of JU’s first five games. Jacksonville sports five players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Aloys Cabell’s 12.0 per contest.

The Golden Eagles (5-0) are returning to the court for the first time in a week, winning the Paradise Jam Tournament via three victories in three days.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. (EST), with the game being broadcast locally on 1010XL with Terry Norvelle calling the action starting with Bono’s Barbecue Pregame Show at 7:45 p.m. Fans with DirectTV can catch the television broadcast on SportsNet New York (Channel 639).
