Danielle Fournier named Collegiate Rowing Association second team all-South Region
Senior Danielle Fournier will get some extra hardware to cap her stellar JU career after being named second team all-South Region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).
The award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains from each of the five regions, organized into first and second-team selections.
Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches recommendations and 2,000-meter ERG score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
“Danielle demonstrated strong leadership this year, to lead the team to its best Dad Vail performance since 1999 in the V8+,” said JU women’s head coach Kris Muhl. “Sometimes seniors simply coast their final year, but Danielle was not one of those people. She helped organize the team volunteer for a Pancreatic Cancer Walk at the beach, excelled in school, and continued to practice and improve technically until the final race. She is certainly deserving of this honor.”
In four years with the Dolphins, Fournier helped the squad to two women’s team point trophies and four overall team point trophies in the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta (FIRA). Along with leading this year’s WV8 to its best finish at Dad Vails since 1999, she also was a member of the Women’s Varsity 4 boat which placed sixth in the Margaret McNiff Trophy Grand Final as a junior.
