Countdown to The Citadel: 15 days

The Big Picture: The final day of two-a-days for this year’s camp began at 7 a.m. with a session that lasted an abbreviated hour and a half as freshmen had on campus responsibilities. The evening practice began at 6:30. The team travels to The Bolles High School Saturday for a 6 p.m. which is open to the public.

The Highlights: Safety Lacy McDougald is making plays in pass defense. He menaced receivers on the sidelines in the morning session … for the second consecutive day, fullback Hank Farmer flattened a defender … wide receiver Josh Philpart continues to shine. Several great catches, none better than the one where he took bullet pass from Trevious Folston between diving defenders.

From The Players: Are you happy to see two-a-days end? Freshman RB Johnny Hicks: “Honestly, I am happy two-a-days are over with. It was a nice time and we worked hard and got things done. Hopefully I’ll get some playing time in the future.’’ … Sophomore DB Andre Addison: “I’m in the middle. In two-a-days you’ve got extra work and can perfect your craft but yet again it is tiring. In a way I’m happy because I get more rest but in a way it’s a loss because we have less time to perfect our craft. But, we’re still getting better. I’m looking forward to getting to my studies (major is business management).’’ Junior DL Mike Mayoral “It’s always good to get it over with but we got a lot of hard work in and improved a lot. It’s good to see the team come from where we were at two weeks ago to where we’re at now.’’ … Senior OL Kyle Nanton: “Definitely, but it’s a little rough. It’s my last two-a-days as a senior but it’s good to know that the season’s about to get under way and we can get the season started.’’

From The Coaches: “Tomorrow’s scrimmage is big. We’ll be able to see the improvement from last week to this week and it usually is substantial. It’s a big one.’’ Wide receivers coach Ernie Mills.
