JU football player Colby Walden was tabbed as the Community First Credit Union “Athlete of the Week” to kick off the latest edition of This Week in JU Athletics.

This Week in JU Athletics is a weekly feature to give fans the top five items of the week and a full list of all the athletic events so they can cheer the Dolphins on to victory.

Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" - Colby Walden: Junior football player Colby Walden was named the Community First Credit Union "Athlete of the Week" after winning the fan vote on the JU athletics facebook page. Walden recorded five kickoff runs for 185 yards against Charleston Southern, including a 93-yard touchdown return to start the game.
Football opens PFL play on Saturday - After a thrilling win at home, the Dolphins will return to the road to play Campbell in the PFL opener on Saturday at 1 p.m. JU won all eight conference games last season, including a 31-24 win vs. Campbell at home to officially claim the PFL title.
Volleyball & women’s soccer begin A-Suns schedule- Like the football team, the volleyball and women’s soccer program begin conference play this weekend. The volleyball team opens the A-Sun slate on Friday at FGCU before playing Stetson the next day. The women’s soccer squad takes on Stetson in DeLand, Fla. on Friday and travels to FGCU to finish the weekend on Sunday.
Men’s soccer preps for final non-conference matches - Your only chance to see a fall squad in action at home will be the men’s soccer team starting Friday at the Ashley Sports Complex. The Dolphins face George Washington on Saturday at 7 p.m. before finishing with UC Riverside on Sunday at 2 p.m. JU looks to bounce back after tough losses to Temple and Furman.

Other teams in action - Here is a short list to the other teams in action this week. The women’s cross country team competes at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday in Gainesville, Fla. The women’s golf team starts the fall schedule in North Carolina today, while the women’s tennis team is in Atlanta for a tournament on Friday. The softball team gets its fall slate started against Florida State College of Jacksonville on Saturday at the JU softball Complex.
