Junior defender Arianne Heaton was named a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week, the site announced this week.

Heaton (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) has been a stalwart on the Dolphins back line, helping JU go 1-0-1 to start Atlantic Sun Conference play with a win over Stetson and a tie against league power FGCU. Heaton was one of just 11 selections by CS360 for the week of Sept.19-25.

“I am excited that Arianne was recognized,” JU coach Brian Copham said. “It’s not often defenders get the attention they deserve because they don’t always have the gaudy stats that forwards can produce. She has been excellent for us, not only as a defender, but a leader on our back line. She has played against a variety of forwards and highly ranked teams and has been consistently good for us.”

Heaton played all 110 minutes in a rain-soaked road contest at FGCU on Sunday. The third-year starter held the Eagles to just six shots on goal. Her effort in front of sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Sierra helped the Dolphins earn a key point against a FGCU squad that went 8-0-2 against the A-Sun in 2010.

Just two days prior, Heaton also played the entire game in helping the Dolphins to a 3-1 win over Stetson in the A-Sun opener. She has led a back line that has helped Sierra post four shutouts through the first 11 games, helping her squad to a 5-4-2 with just two of those matches coming at home.

JU will next be in action on Friday when it hosts Kennesaw State. Kickoff at the Ashley Sports Complex is set for 7 p.m.
