TALES FROM THE BACKLINE: "Keep riding that wave"
We have found a way to keep winning games, which was one of our major problems last year. Every time we seemed to be the superior team on the field, we still lost close games by one goal. This year, I have the feeling that we finally found a way to solve the mysterious winning equation.
It took us a long time to figure out the x- variable in this equation, but it could be that the newly improved team chemistry might have been one of the missing pieces. The two wins over the weekend showed that we are more determined than ever to become champions.
The 2-1 win against ETSU was important for us because we had to come back from a 1-0 hole. I really like the fact that we are more versatile this year. We do not depend on one single player. Instead, we have had several guys stepping up for us in the last two weeks. This week it was Darko Karamatic, who scored two goals and deserved his A-Sun “Player of the Week” award.
Although we are doing a lot of things right at the moment, we cannot lose sight of our ultimate goal: winning the A-Sun tournament. We could lay back and be content with the nine points we have so far, but we have a higher standard than simply racing off to a good start. We have to search for bigger waves to surf, and there is one coming up in Tennessee this weekend.
We have to show that we are mentally tough. We’ve had a small taste of winning, but we have to strive for more. We cannot be satisfied with what we have achieved so far; we have to stay hungry because only hungry dolphins will risk the journeys to new shores, and only hungry dolphins will be successful at the end because they do everything it takes to be ahead of everyone else. Stay hungry; not thirsty my friends; and let’s get the six points on the weekend.
