Josh McGregor now has thorwn for more than 10,000 yards.
Quarterback Josh McGregor threw five touchdown passes and surpassed the 10,000-yard mark and the Jacksonville University defense shut down the top-ranked passing attack in the Football Championship Series as JU beat Morehead State 50-14 here Saturday.

McGregor, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., threw a 45-yard touchdown to tight end Quintin Davis on the third play of the game and the Dolphins stepped on the accelerator following that for the win.

The senior hit wide receiver Josh Philpart, Davis again, Dorian Guy and Bladen Gudz added a 36-yard field goal as the Dolphins (5-2, 4-0) took off to a 30-7 halftime lead and wore Morehead State (2-5, 1-3) down on a hot day at D.B. Milne Field.

“We went back and forth at the beginning but the heat started getting to them a little, I think,’’ JU coach Kerwin Bell said. McGregor threw one more in the second half, 71 yards to Larry Thompson. Freshman quarterback Trevius Folston tossed one 73 yards to Adrian Riley and senior running back Keith Dawson added a 48-yard run to close out the game. The five TD passes give McGregor 105 for his career putting him in eighth on the all-time FCS list.

He ended the day going 19 of 30 for 346 yards which gives him 10,050 career passing yards. He ended his career against the Eagles with 22 touchdown passes in four years.

“I have been surrounded by very good receivers and a very good offensive line since I’ve been here,’’ McGregor said. Dawson ended the day with 104 yards rushing on 13 carries. Thompson led JU receivers with four catches for 107 yards and it was the 27th consecutive game he has caught a pass. The Eagles’ passing game, ranked first in the nation at 383 yards per game coming into the game, was throttled by JU’s fifth-rated pass defense.

JU defensive back Leonard led the team with seven tackles and defensive tackle Mike Mayoral had three sacks and an interception while defensive back Lacy McDougald had an interception.

Morehead State quarterback Zach Lewis was 23 of 49 for 193 yards and two interceptions. He entered the game completing more than 65 percent of his passes and the team ended with only 205 yards through the air.

JU now has won 15 consecutive PFL games which ties for the league record with San Diego (2005-07) which was coached by Jim Harbaugh. The Dolphins now have won 12 consecutive games at home, the longest active home win streak in all of FCS.
