Sometimes there are upsets and sometimes there are setups and the Jacksonville University football team will try to guard against the latter when Davidson invades D. B. Milne Field Saturday for Homecoming.

The Dolphins have been riding a wave of late and are 4-0 in the Pioneer Football League (5-2 overall), have a 15 game PFL win streak and a nation’s best (in FCS) 12 game home winning streak.

They have score 50 or more points in twice in their last four games and 84 points in the last two games but, still, coach Kerwin Bell isn’t taking chances against the Wildcats who are 0-3 in the conference and 2-4 overall.

“There are always a lot of distractions during Homecoming week,’’ Bell said. “And, Davidson is one of those teams that always plays us tough.’’

In fact, they are. Even though JU has won the last two meetings, Davidson won the previous three and the Dolphins hold a slim 7-6 series advantage.

JU, however, has been improving weekly.

The defense last week throttled the nation’s top-rated passing offense in a 50-14 win over Morehead State and quarterback Josh McGregor has found his groove.

In the last two games, McGregor has thrown for 299 and 346 yards and eight touchdowns and last year threw for a career-high 405 yards and six touchdowns against Davidson as JU rolled, 42-15.

Kickoff is set for 1:06 p.m. with the game being televised on CW-17 television. Veteran play-by-play man Cole Pepper will handle those duties and former NFL lineman Maurice Williams will do color analysis.

On the radio side, 1010XL and 1010XL.com will broadcast the game with Terry Norvelle doing play-by-play. The Bono’s Barbeque Pregame Show begins at 12:30 p.m.
