More accolades for McGregor; JU making noise in polls
Jacksonville University quarterback Josh McGregor added another award to his week late Monday when he was named a College Sporting News National All Star.
McGregor threw for 346 yards and five touchdowns in a 50-14 win over Morehead State Saturday. The touchdowns give him 105 for his career, placing him eighth on the all-time FCS list for career touchdown passes. With his 346 passing yards, McGregor became the 26th quarterback in FCS history to surpass the 10,000-yard passing mark in his JU career as he now has 10,050.
He started with a 45-yard score to tight end Quintin Davis on the third play of the game and ended his day in the fourth quarter with a 71 yard strike to Larry Thompson. In between he completed TD passes of 32, 2, and 38 yards to finish 19 of 30 passing on the day.
The senior, from Royal Palm Beach, Fla., previously had been named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week and a College Football Performance Awards national player of the week.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins (5-2, 4-0 in the PFL) made their first appearance in a national top-20 poll as they have come in at 18th on the Power Rated Sports national rankings. JU also placed 37th in the FCS Coaches Poll and 49th this week in The Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS poll. It is the highest ranking for the team in each of those polls this season.
JU plays host to Davidson Saturday for Homecoming at 1 p.m.
