Women's Soccer to host Mercer in A-Sun Tournament on Friday
The number three seed JU Women’s Soccer team will begin its Atlantic Sun Tournament run when they host the Mercer Bears this Friday at 7 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex. This first round game will be a rematch of last year’s tournament championship game where the Dolphins fell to Mercer 1-0.
The Dolphins earned the number three seed after ending the regular season with a conference record of 7-1-1 and in a three-way tie for first with Florida Gulf Coast and ETSU. That gave them the right to host the first-round game against the number six seed Mercer Bears who finished conference play with a 3-5-1 record.
“We are excited to win a share of the regular season championship,” said head coach Brian Copham. “We are looking forward to hosting a first round game. Any time you get to play a post season game at home makes for a great atmosphere. We are thrilled to get one more game in front of our home fans.”
Admission to the game will be $5 for the general public and students with a valid Atlantic Sun school ID get in free.
The teams met this season in Jacksonville on Oct. 2 with JU prevailing 1-0 in double overtime. The winner of Friday’s game will play the number two seed, East Tennessee State, Nov. 4 in Fort Myers, Fla.
