Women’s golf takes third at the Holiday Inn Express Classic
Natalie Schmett and Jessica Welch tied for fourth place as the JU women’s golf team took home third at the Holiday Inn Express Classic on the par-72 Victoria Hills Country Club.

Schmett closed the event with a one-under par 71, the best round of the day, to jump into a tie for fourth place to complete a rebound from an 82 in the opening round to finish at nine-over par for the event.

Welch equaled her for the tournament at nine-over par, carding a five-over par 77 to tie Schmett.

The solid finishes by the freshmen led the Dolphins to a 20-over par round of 308, finishing a shot back of Daytona State for second. Stetson won its fifth straight title in its home event, finishing at 897 for the 54 holes.

“We played well today and this is an encouraging finish to our fall season,” said JU head coach Ashley Prange. “We’ve made some progress, but we also know that we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”

Morgan Jackson had her best round of the event, carding a seven-over par 79, to tie for 29th at 28-over par. Allison Cornell rounded out the team score with a nine-over par, 81, to finish in 38th at 35-over par.

Gaia Olcese shot a 10-over par, 82, to tie for 10th at 16-over par, 232.

The Dolphins return to the links in February for the first of two home events, starting at Hidden Hills Country Club for the Courtyard Classic.
