Shanique Walker earns Track & Field News High School All-America honors
JU track & field freshman Shanique Walker secured one more high school accolade after being named to the Track & Field News All-America team in the upcoming December 2011 issue.
Walker, who attended Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose, Calif., earned the honor for the triple jump with the help of her victory in the US Junior Track & Championships on June 25. She recorded a leap of 40’11.75” to win that event and better her second place finish in 2010.
"Shanique had an excellent high school career at Mt. Pleasant under the guidance of Steve Nelson. This is a great honor for them,” JU head coach Ron Grigg. “We are excited that student-athletes of this caliber are recognizing the excellent opportunities that exist at JU. Shanique is having a great fall preparation period and we look forward to her future competitive results."
Prior to coming to JU, Walker was listed as the No. 4 long jumper and No. 6 triple jumper nationally by Track & Field News. She has personal best of 20’ 0” in the long jump, 41’ 6” in the triple jump, 14.11 in the 100-meter hurdles and 43.60 in the 300-meter hurdles.
Walker and the Dolphins open the indoor track schedule at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. on Jan. 14.
