Bo McDougal named Northeast rep for Athletic Trainers' Association of Florida
JU Assistant Athletic Director Bo McDougal was recently named the Northeast representative for the Athletic Trainers' Association of Florida (ATAF) following its fall elections.
McDougal, who has worked nearly 30 years at JU, will oversee the athletic training effects for 20 counties in the state for the next two years this role. The board is elected by a popular majority vote of the active ATAF membership
“It will be an honor to be voted into this position by my peers,” McDougal said. “I am excited because we know that the role of the athletic trainer is always changing to better meet the needs of the athletes we are responsible for on a daily basis.”
McDougal is in his third year in his new role as assistant athletic director for support services after working in the JU sports medicine department for 26-years of his Dolphins tenure.
In his current role, McDougal is responsible for pre-event operations within the athletic department as well as have administrative oversight of the sports medicine and men’s and women's lacrosse. He also serves as athletic insurance coordinator and oversees the Drug-testing program for JU student-athletes. McDougal is a crew member with The National Center for Drug Free Sports, Inc.
In 2007, McDougal was named the ATAF College/University Athletic Trainer of the Year for his extensive work with the Dolphins.
Outside of JU, McDougal has spent the last five school breaks as an athletic trainer for People to People at the Youth Friendship Games (2008, 2009), Ambassador Games (2007) in Vienna, Austria, the Zico Cup Futebol Tournament in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil (2010) and the Ole International Cup in Ribeirao Preto, Brazil (2011).
