Wildcats defeat Dolphins

The Jacksonville University women’s tennis team dropped a home match to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 5-2 Wednesday at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.  JU freshman Aline Staudt continued her stellar season by winning her singles match and improving to 4-0 on the year. 

The outstanding freshman cruised to a straight sets win over Katarina Szaboova 6-1, 6-0.  On the year Staudt has now outscored the opponents’ number one player 46 games to 20 having only dropped one set.  She and fellow Dolphin Natalia Marques Melibeu have been a successful doubles duo winning their match 8-4 and improving to 3-1 on the season.

Fellow freshman Djessika Bezerra was also victorious in her singles match defeating Gaby Chinchilla 0-6, 6-3, 6-1.  The win marked the second for Bezerra on the season moving her individual record to 2-2 in 2012. 

The Dolphins are now 1-3 as a team on the season and will look to rebound when they host Hampton University on February 18 at 10:00 am.
