Men’s golf set to tee off in the SunTrust Gator Invitational
The Jacksonville men’s golf team returns to the links on Saturday morning when the Dolphins face some of the nation’s best in the SunTrust Gator Invitational.
Held on the Mark Bostick Golf Course, the Dolphins will go up against 8-time defending champion Florida on its home course as well as nationally ranked teams like Mississippi State, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State and Liberty.
“We are looking forward to a great tournament on a demanding golf course,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “Our goal is to focus on our process – taking it one shot at a time. We know that we’re facing some of the top teams in the country, but we’ve also shown that when we stick to the process, we can compete with them.”
The Dolphins lineup will be led by junior Jamey Salmon, who is coming off a stellar start to his spring season. The Jacksonville native finished tied for fourth at the Sea Best Invitational at 3-over par, just four shots behind eventual champion T.J. Vogel.
JU’s lineup will feature a pair of freshmen in Nick Torrance and Brett McKinnon, as well as sophomore Brain Phelan and junior Trey Douglas – who earned a spot in the lineup by winning a sudden death playoff in qualifying.
