Men’s basketball gets final spot in A-Sun Tournament
The Jacksonville men’s basketball team lives to see another day as the Dolphins have secured the final spot in next week’s General Shale Brick Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.
The Dolphins (8-21, 6-12 A-Sun) took home the eighth seed after winning the tiebreaker with Stetson for the final spot in the tournament.
With their spot in the books, Jacksonville faces No. 1 seed and defending champion Belmont (24-7, 16-2 A-Sun) in the first round on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
“It’s a new season now,” said JU head coach Cliff Warren. “Everyone has a 0-0 record now. Our guys know that we have to keep improving each day and that’s our focus.”
Belmont swept the season series from the Dolphins, winning 75-63 at the Arena on Jan. 4 and at home on Jan. 28, 85-71. The Bruins enter the tournament on an 11-game winning streak after rallying past Mercer on the Bears home court in the regular season finale.
The game will be televised on Comcast Sports Southeast with Mike Morgan and Sonny Smith calling the action.
