Womens’ golf slips to seventh at the USA Invitational
The Jacksonville women’s golf team saw its hopes of a team title dashed as they fell to seventh place at the USA Invitational.

The Dolphins posted a 24-over par round of 312 to fall back in the field to finish at 45-over par as host South Alabama won the title at 31-over.

Louisiana-Monroe’s Lina Lagergren shot a one-under par 71 in the final round to win the individual title at 3-over par.

Morgan Jackson paced the Dolphins with a 3-over par 75 to tie for ninth place at 7-over par for the event.

“The conditions were perfect for scoring today and we just didn’t take advantage,” said JU head coach Ashley Prange. “This is another learning experience for our young team as they were in contention for the team title entering the day. We’ll learn from this and be ready to take advantage when we get in contention again.”

Natalie Schmett followed up her opening 76 with a 77 to tie for 11th at nine-over par. Gaia Olcese and Francesca Yong each shot an 8-over par, 80, with Olcese finishing tied for 24th at 13-over par while Yong tied for 47th at 20-over par.

Jessica Welch shot an 11-over par, 83, and tied for 43rd.

The Dolphins are back in action on March 8 when they tee it up at the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational.
