Sand Volleyball falls to Hawaii
The JU sand volleyball team suffered its second straight home loss Tuesday morning to the University of Hawaii, 5-0, at the Dolphin Beach Volleyball Complex.
The Rainbows (1-0) swept all five flights 2-0 to earn their first duals win and hand the Dolphins (0-2) their second loss this season.
“We faced a very good team today,” JU head coach Michelle Collier said. “I was proud of how much our team has improved over the last two weeks and how we were able to compete at a very high level. It was hard to see the improvement in the numbers but Hawaii is probably one of our strongest opponents this year. Being able to hang in there with them says something about the direction we are going.”
For the second straight match, the Dolphins got most of its production out of the final two flights.
In flight four, junior Nicole Teplitz and sophomore Alyssa Robertson cut a second-set deficit to 23-22 before Alex Griffiths and Monica Stauber earned the final kill to secure the match point.
Sophomore Kylie Jacob and freshman Chelsea Sanderson had two close battles (21-13, 21-16) in flight five against Mita Uiato and Jade Vorster.
Freshman Cari Whitmire and Sammie Strausbaugh fell in flight one to Emily Hartong and Elizabeth Stoltzman. In flight two, Ashley Lee and Larissa downed sophomores Kendall Courtney and Niatha Cullen. Freshman Jenna Orner and Kathryn Kane took the loss in flight three.
The Dolphins look to bounce back on Thursday against Florida Atlantic at the Dolphins Beach Volleyball Complex. First serve is at 1 p.m.
