Track & field wraps another good day at Pepsi Florida Relays
Two strong relay efforts helped the JU track & field team close the Pepsi Florida Relays out on a high note Saturday in Gainesville, Fla.
Junior Charlene Charles, senior Amalia Vogler, freshman Sarah Bailey and sophomore Svenja Meyer broke the program record in the 4x800-meter relay in 9:10.59 (8th). Charles had a split of 2:16.8, while Vogler was at 2:15.6. Bailey (2:16.5) and Meyer (2:21.4) rounded out the group with their good splits.
In the 4x400-meter relay, freshman Shanique Walker (56.0), junior LaTonya Payne (55.8), freshman Courtney Walker (54.4) and junior Bienna Freeman (55.4) posted the fourth-fastest program time at 3:41.67 (19th).
“The program had a solid two days,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “I’m looking forward to backing off training the next two weeks as we prepare for the conference meet.”
Junior Akeela Bravo had a personal-best toss of 173’3” in the hammer throw to place sixth. Senior Laura Phillips finished ninth in the same event with a personal-best toss of 168’4”. Shanique Walker recorded a leap of 39’0.25” in the triple jump.
The Dolphins will have a small group compete next Saturday in the FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Fla.
