Track & field earns more honors from A-Sun Championships
Junior Akeela Bravo secured another honor following her dominating performance in helping the JU track & field team secure its seventh straight A-Sun Outdoor title April 21.
Bravo was named the meet’s Most Outstanding Field Performer to go along with her Most Valuable Performer accolade. She won the hammer (173’5”) and shot put (44’10.25”), while finishing second in the discus to earn the honors.
Head coach Ron Grigg was named Coach of the Year for the seventh straight outdoor season.
“Akeela had a wonderful championship,” Grigg said. “She and the rest of the throws group set the tone for our team early on Friday. She is certainly deserving of having her athletic achievements during the championship recognized.”
On the final day of competition, the Dolphins won seven events Saturday, including finishing 1-2 in three events, to finish with 242 points for the title.
The Dolphins are in action again on May 8 for the Demon Deacon Combined Event in Winston-Salem, N.C.
