Charles leads Lynchburg heptathlon after first day of competition
JU track & field’s Charlene Charles has a personal-best 3,299 points to lead the Lynchburg College Heptathlon following the first day of competition Monday afternoon.
Charles won the 100-meter hurdles (14.10) and high jump (5’7.75”), while posting a personal-best throw of 33’10” (6th) in the shot put. She finished fourth in the 200-meter in 24.79.
“Charlene held it together throughout the day one,” JU head coach Ron Grigg said. “Her score definitely gives her an excellent chance of scoring more than 5,400 points tomorrow which is the magic number for an NCAA qualifying berth.”
Charles wraps the heptathlon tomorrow with the long jump, javelin and 800-meter beginning at 2 p.m.
