Five Dolphins receive A-Sun Honors

The Atlantic Sun released its All-Conference honors Tuesday and there were five members of the Jacksonville Softball team that were selected to the 2012 A-Sun All-Conference Second Team.  Brittany Eppley, Karson Tuck, Codi Kelly, Kayla Ouellet, and Ashley Simon were all recognized for their outstanding seasons.  Simon also picked up All-Freshman honors.

Eppley has dominated opposing batters in the A-Sun this season posting a ridiculous 13.2/1 strikeout to walk ratio.  She leads conference play with 79 strikeouts.  Eppley has only gotten stronger as the season has gone on culminating with her one hit shutout performance in the Dolphins final regular season game that clinched a berth and a chance to defend last year’s A-Sun Tournament Title.

Like Eppley, Tuck has been at her best in conference play.  She leads the team with four home runs in A-Sun competition and has been second on the team with a .346 batting average and 11 RBI.  Tuck’s most impressive stat has been her .596 slugging percentage in conference play.

Kelly has been a pleasant surprise this season after joining the team this season.  She has thrived at the top of the lineup and leads the team in batting average in A-Sun play at an impressive .364.  Her .439 on-base percentage is tops on the team as well.

Ouellet put together another spectacular season for the Dolphins.  Her .353 batting average on the season leads the team.  Her most impressive stat is her 32 stolen bases which leads the conference by eight.  Ouellet’s 66 hits lead the team and have her sitting at second most in the A-Sun.

Simon has done a great job coming in as a freshman and contributing to the team.  She has provided a potent bat in the middle of the lineup for the Dolphins and has the third highest batting average on the team at .321.  She has been able to raise her average 19 points in conference play up to an impressive .340.

With the regular season completed, Jacksonville will now turn its attention to the conference tournament where they enter as the number five seed.  They will take on Lipscomb in a rematch of last year’s title game.  The two teams split a pair of games earlier this season when they faced off at the JU Softball Complex.  The game is set for Wednesday at 3:00 pm in Spartanburg, S.C.
