Smith PFL Defensive Player of the Week
For the third consecutive week, a JU player has been named one of the Pioneer Football League's top players.
Senior defensive back Leonard Smith was named the PFL’s Defensive Player of the Week after an outstanding all-around performance in the team’s 21-9 win over Marist Saturday.
Smith, from Orlando, Fla., and Edgewater High School, forced two fumbles and made 10 tackles in the game.
His first fumble forced was recovered at the 1-yard line and set up Jacksonville’s second touchdown. Smith’s second fumble forced (which he recovered) came after Marist completed a pass at the Jacksonville 20-yard line, killing a potential scoring drive.
He also was credited with seven solo tackles, 1½ tackles for loss and a pass breakup in as part of his efforts to keep JU unbeaten in the PFL.
Quarterback Josh McGregor was a co-Player of the Week last week on offense and senior Colby Walden was Player of the Week for special teams earlier this season.
