Men’s golf rallies to finish eighth at Amelia National
Freshman Nick Torrance had another solid round to help the JU men’s golf team finish in eighth place at inaugural Amelia National Intercollegiate.

Torrance, who missed the first round on Monday with food poisoning, carded a two-over par 74 to finish at even-par for the two rounds he played.

His 74 lead the Dolphins to a 14-over par, 302, moving up to eighth place after starting the final round in 10th place.

North Florida won the event at 21-under par, led by Sean Dale, who won the individual competition by three shots with a winning score of nine-under par.

“We made some great strides these last two rounds, giving us some momentum as we head into our offseason training,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “Nick had two good rounds, which will really bolster his confidence.”

Bobby Fredeking added to the JU score with a three-over par 75, finishing the event in 28th place at seven-over par.

Brett McKinnon shot a four-over par 76 and finished at 19-over par, tied for 65th place. Jamey Salmon rounded out the team score, carding a five-over par 77 to finish in a tie for 32nd at nine-over par.

Trey Douglas carded an 84 to finish in a tie for 77th at 27-over par.

The Dolphins return to the links on Jan. 30 for their home event on the PLAYERS Stadium Course at the TPC at Sawgrass.
