Jamey Salmon ties for 10th at the Linger Longer Invitational
Jacksonville junior Jamey Salmon carded a one-under par 71 to tie for 10th at the Linger Longer Invitational.
Salmon claimed his third top 10 finish of the spring season and his seventh top 20 finish in nine events this season. He finished the event at 2-under par.
As a team, the Dolphins finished 12th in the elite field at 37-over par after posting a 12-over par, 300, in the final round. No. 7 Alabama won the team title at 26-under par with the Tide’s Cory Whitsett winning a four-hole playoff over Georgia’s Nick Reach – who tied at 8-under par.
“We didn’t finish as strong as we wanted and left a lot of shots out there today,” said JU head coach Mike Blackburn. “Jamey has been solid all season and this was another good finish for him.”
Teeing off on the 10th hole, Salmon got off to a sluggish start with a bogey at the par-4 11th. But birdies at Nos. 12, 15 and 18 had him at 2-under par heading to the back nine.
The back nine got off to a raucous start with a birdie on the par-4 first and he got his round to 4-under par with a birdie on the par-5 sixth. Having pulled into contention at 5-under par for the event, Salmon’s hopes for a rally to the individual title slipped away with a bogey at the seventh and a double bogey at the par-3 eighth to finish off his round of 71.
Nick Torrance and Bobby Fredeking each shot a four-over par 76 in the final round, with Torrance tying for 49th at 12-over par and Fredeking tying for 60th at 18-over par.
Will Braude carded a five-over par, 77, to tie for 66th at 20-over par while Brett McKinnon shot a six-over par, 78, to tie Torrance in 49th at 12-over par.
The Dolphins are off until the River Landing Intercollegiate on April 6.
