Maybe playing on national television means something.

After posting its first win in the Guy Van Arsdale era, the JU men’s lacrosse team received votes in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll released Monday.

The Dolphins (1-1) beat the Naval Academy 13-7 in the Moe’s Southwest Grille Classic at EverBank Field Sunday in a game that was broadcast on NBC Sports Network.

The Ohio State Buckeyes (3-0), who played Denver in Sunday’s first game, jumped from also receiving votes to 11th after upsetting the previously fifth-ranked Bears (1-1). Denver fell to 12th in the latest poll.

JU’s next opponent, Duke, is ranked 10th by the USILA. The Blue Devils are 1-1, having lost to No. 2 Notre Dame 7-3 over the weekend and play 17th ranked Penn Friday.

For the second consecutive poll, Virginia has been ranked No. 1.

JU defenseman Jake Ziegler, a team captain from Ziegler Webster, N.Y., is one of 20 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. Ziegler was named to the MAAC All-Academic team and All-MAAC First Team in 2011. He maintains a 3.7 GPA in communications. This past fall, Ziegler accomplished a 4.0 GPA. Outside of lacrosse, Ziegler is a volunteer at senior living community centers and a volunteer coach to young lacrosse players.

The acronym "CLASS" stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Stay in School. The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award is presented each year to the outstanding senior NCAA Division I Student-Athlete of the Year across ten different sports. Award winners are determined by a selection process that includes NCAA Division I coaches in each respective sport, nation media, and fans.

Public fan voting for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award takes place during the month leading up the NCAA Championship on the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award website.
