The first Varsity 8 boat then finished second to Columbia’s heavyweight boat in 6:17.3.

The races were run on calm water and there was a slight cross, building headwind towards the end of the day. The headwind varied from 3-5 mph.

“We made progress this week, but we definitely have a lot of work to do if we are going to reach out goals,’’ coach Jim Mitchell said. “I'm excited to see how much quality work we can get done during our spring break training camp.’’

The team is undergoing Spring Training Camp this week and will be at the FIRA race in Sarasota, Fla., on April 13.
