Title in hand, men move on to SIRA

Still basking in their sixth consecutive Florida state title, the men’s rowing team is now off to Tennessee for the Southeast Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) regatta this weekend.

Three eight-man craft will compete on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge during the weekend which has preliminaries Saturday and finals Sunday.

Coxswain Andrew Soloway will lead the Varsity 8 boat against Grand Valley, Dayton, Georgia Tech, William and Mary and Wichita State in its heat race. On board will be Matt Outlaw, Scott DelVecchio, Andy Davis, Greg VanOekel, Bernard Vingilis, Jeremy Sobiech, Brian Cosmillo and Chase Rowe.

The JV8 will have Tom Richards at coxswain and he will have Preston Weinard, Andrew Bechtold, Tim Easterling, Jared Low, Chris Ottie, Shane Kennedy, Brian Tye and Sean Carney on board. The JV8 will take on Kansas State, Grand Valley, Temple and Notre Dame in a heat race.

The Freshman 8 will test Liberty, Colorado, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Virginia. David Waugh will be at coxswain with Jacob Strauss, Stephen Marra, Matt Thomas, Drew Allen, Jacob Motes, Chris Morgan, Shawn Macklefresh and Josh Holt as crew.
