TALES FROM THE BACKLINE: First conference game and first win
On Sunday, we played our first conference game against the Mercer Bears. We had to overcome many challenges playing four hours away from home (including the movie choices of (trainer) Blas Ruelas and assistant coach Terry Peak). Fortunately, we finally met our high expectations and came away with the first win in the A-Sun opener.

It is always tough to play at Mercer because the Bears have the tendency to play a unique style, and it is always hard to find a way to beat them. I am really happy and proud of our team for coming out with the victory. We finally played like a unit, and everyone was fighting for each other on the pitch.

Our main focus before this game was to strengthen our team chemistry and it worked out well. All for one, one for all. One of our newly established rules before games is quiet time to get concentrated on what is in front of us.

All the joking around before games is over and we are all focused on the task at hand. I am really pleased with the way we played on the field and how we did not let Mercer influence our game. In the end, the win was based on a strong team performance and two goals of Dolphin Dani (Daniele Campailla). Dolphin Dani has had a rough time the last couple weeks, so we were all glad he finally got a few breaks and used his great talent last Sunday. Keep up the good work, Dani.

This weekend will be really important to build off our strong team performance against Mercer. It will show if we can play like that consistently and if we are able to make another step in the right direction. Guys, it is time to prove that we are not a one hit wonder. I hope our fans come out and support us when we take on USC Upstate and ETSU on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
