Junior Jose Fantova defeated USM’s Matt Frost in the first round of the 2011 Seminole Invitational hosted by Florida State University.

The event marked the first competitive action for the JU men’s tennis team for the 2011-12 season. After winning the opening round, 6-0, 3-6, 6-2, Fantova fell to Florida A&M’s Salif Kante in the second round.

Junior Fernando Bano Lopez, who was one of JU’s most dependable players last spring, knocked off USM’s Paolo Alvarado’s in the opening round before falling in the next.

Sophomore Larry Condez won two rounds in the "A Draw" consolation draw, beating USM’s Inaki Belloso and FSU’s Blake Davis before losing to GCU’s Dean Tsamas.

Freshman Elmon Heywood won his singles ‘B” consolation draw against FGCU’s Collin Brown on Saturday.
