Men's tennis falls to Florida Gulf Coast
Fernando Banos Lopez scored the only point for the Jacksonville men’s tennis team in their match against FGCU on Saturday in Fort Myers. JU was defeated 6-1 as a team.
Banos Lopez was able to win his flight #2 match against Gulf Coast’s Jackson Moore in three sets. He won 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 for his second conference individual win and his seventh overall on the 2012 season. He is the only Dolphin to have a winning over his last ten matches going 5-4 over that span with one match being stopped before completion.
The doubles team of Richard Casagrande and Jose Fantova won for their second straight match. They battled to defeat their Gulf Coast opponents 9-8 (12-10). The duo is 2-0 on the year as they have only been paired together in their previous match.
Fantova was narrowly defeated in his court #1 individual match. He took the first set 6-2, but then fell in the second 6-7 (5-7) and third 1-0 (12-10). Fantova has struggled in conference play going 1-4 but he is facing each team’s top player as all his matches have been played on court #1.
The Dolphins (3-14, 1-4) will look to rebound at home when they host the Lipscomb Bisons on April 6 at the Keith Watson Family Tennis Complex.
