Women’s golf heads to Daytona for Xavier LPGA Invitational
The JU women’s golf team kicks off the Ashley Prange era in the Xavier LPGA Invitational on Friday morning.

The Dolphins had a solid start to the season, with a young group finishing in eighth place at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate. Freshman Natalie Schmett tied for eight in her first collegiate tournament at even-par.

"I am excited that the Xavier LPGA Invitational this weekend will be launching my career as the new head women's golf coach here at JU,” Prange said. “LPGA International is a course that I know like the back of my hand with the many rounds I have competed on it. I am looking forward to seeing the progress and hard work the team has put in and it transforming to great results. I look for this to be the start of a new era for the JU Women's golf program."

The Dolphins were in the hunt for the title after 18 holes in the opener, entering the final round in a tie for third at six-over par. Freshman Jessica Welch carded a two-under par 70 in that round, recording six birdies to lead the Dolphins.

Joining the freshmen duo will junior Gaia Olcese along with seniors Alison Cornell and Morgan Jackson. Olcese just missed a top 20 finish in the opener, tying for 21st at four-over par. Cornell carded a career-best 77 in the first round.

The tournament begins Friday morning, with the second round on Saturday and the final round on Sunday.
