Women’s golf in ninth at the Wendy’s Invitational
Natalie Schmett posted an even-par round of 71 and trails by one shot entering the final round of the Wendy’s Invitational.

Schmett’s round led the JU women’s golf team to a round of 28-over par, 312, which has the Dolphins in ninth place in the 16-team event. JU trails third place Gardner-Webb by six shots.

Marshall leads the event after shooting a 15-over par, 299. Marshall’s Allison Harper and Appalachian State’s Rumbidzai Masamvu are tied for the lead after shooting a one-under par, 70.

“We made some progress today,” said JU head coach Ashley Prange. “Natalie played well to put herself into contention. We’ve got some strokes to make up, but we also know we left some strokes out there today.”

Freshman Jessica Welch carded a seven-over par, 78, to finish in 26th place. Gaia Olcese shot an eight-over par, 79, and is tied for 32nd. Morgan Jackson rounded out the team score with a 13-over par, 84, which has her tied for 63rd.

Carlie Gehlhausen shot a 20-over par, 91, and is in 84th place.

The Dolphins will tee it up in the final on Tuesday morning.
