In a prelude to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship in two weeks, the Jacksonville women’s golf team topped three-time defending champion Stetson by two shots in an 18-hole match on Thursday at Venetian Bay Golf Club.

Morgan Jackson and Natalie Schmett each carded a one-under par 71 to lead the Dolphins to a seven-over par, 295, while Stetson posted a nine-over par, 297.

“This was great match today and some really good competition to get us ready for our final two tournaments of the season,” said JU head coach Ashley Prange.  “Natalie and Morgan put together a really solid round for us.  To have two scores under par gives everyone some confidence as we get ready to play here in two weeks with the conference title on the line.”

The Dolphins score got assists from Francesca Yong with a 4-over par, 76, and Jessica Welch with a 5-over par, 77.  Carlie Gehlhausen shot an 84 to round out the JU lineup.

Stetson was led by Mallory Viera’s 1-over par, 73, with Claudia Redinger and Sammi Smith each shooting a 74, while Ryan Ashburn had a 4-over par, 76.  Jenna Hoecker shot an 81 to fill out the Hatters lineup.

The Dolphins return to the links for their final head-to-head matchup on Saturday when they host Brown on the Dye’s Valley Course at the TPC at Sawgrass.
